A Hillsboro Police motorcycle officer has been involved in a crash in Sherwood.
At approximately 1:40 p.m., a witness called to report seeing the officer lying in the road at Southwest Pacific Highway and Northwest Meinecke Parkway. The witnesses said the officer had been hit by a vehicle.
Hillsboro Police Lt. Michael Rouches said Officer Clint Chrz was working a multi-agency traffic detail and had stopped a vehicle along Highway 99W at Northwest Meinecke Parkway in Sherwood. He had parked his motorcycle and was standing next to the vehicle he had pulled over when another vehicle hit the cycle, which in turn hit him.
Chrz was taken to the hospital via LifeFlight and was in stable condition.
“This is one of those days that make us all stop and think,” Rouches said. “We’re just happy that it looks like he’ll be okay.”
Chrz, a nine-year veteran of the Hillsboro Police Department, has been a motorcycle officer for four years.
Police were questioning the driver of the vehicle that hit the motorcycle. Rouches did not have information about any possible citations.
The northbound lanes of Highway 99W were closed from Northwest Meinecke Parkway to Sunset Boulevard.
i feel bad for the officer. but i have witnessed this "milti agency traffic detail" before in that same area.. they put about 30 (not exagerating) motorcycle officerd on the side of th road on a 1 minle stretch of road and pull cars over for speeding. thats way too many police in one area at a givin time. its hard to pay attention to your driving when your trying to figure out why all the officers in one area.. makes you think its some kind of bomb scare or something

how in the heck do you not see red and blue flashing lights?I wonder what the driver was doing, to not have been able to see flashing lights and two cars on the shoulder of the road....i hope the officers on the scene write the idiot every ticket he deserves....

Officer Chrz is a nice guy and a great officer. I wish him a speedy recovery.

I can't believe the comment from "Jeremy". I hope you never have a loved one injuried. This accident was preventable. If you drive this stretch of the highway than you also see all the vehicles that speed down 99w on a regular basis. It is very sad to know that a cop was injuried trying to make our roads safer. I know that the community of Sherwood is hoping for a fast recovery for Officer Chrz.

i agree with corey. jeremy's comment was pathetic. there's a reason for the detail in that area. believe me, i know. if there wasn't a reason, they wouldn't be there - they would focus their efforts on someone else. And if you can't focus on driving because there are too many cops on the side of road, then you should probably take the driver's test again - cause it's obvious you can't safely drive on our roads. if that's the case - then that detail was there especially for drivers like you.

And how, exactly, does that excuse negligent driving on the part of the unobservant cager?
If indeed there are 30 motorycle patrol officers in a 1 mile span (1 every 176 feet, which I highly doubt), how in all that is sane and reasonable do you not see one of them and smash your barely-guided car into said motorcycle?
It's a car, folks. The gas pedal is on the right and should be used gently. The brake pedal's in the middle, and it stops you. Use the big round thing in front of you to keep it BETWEEN the yellow and white lines.

"The officer, identified as Clint Chrz, had to be cut out of his uniform and he was flown by LifeFlight to a local hospital. He has pain in his side and back, but is expected to be fine."
That's from KATU news. Was lifeflight really necessary?

I was told the reason this sting was going on was to enforce the law which requires drivers to either slow down or give officers/firefighters/and other emergency personnel a whole lane of clearance. I heard this driver was weaving through traffic before he hit the officer. Im a volunteer firefighter, and a tow truck driver, and I love helping people but when other drivers are careless and not paying attention it makes our job incredibly dangerous.

"Was life flight really necessary?" ANSWER: It is called "mechanism of injury"... If you are hit by a car or something to that degree, or are in a car that has been torn in half but you "walked away", Life Flight is a primary means or transport in the first responders eyes. Shock and adrenaline can do amazing things--If it were your spouse and they died later from internal injuries with no outward signs of distress at the scene, you would take every action of recourse to find out why didn't they do something..... Right?

Re: Officer involved crash in Sherwood
I hope the officer is not critically injured and recovers quickly, and that the idiot who ran into him is caught. I just don't understand how that happens. Drivers need to pay better attention and not be so consumed with their cell phone calls and other distractions. My thoughts are with the officer and his family.
