Tigard, Tualatin gardens in full bloom for annual tour

Schools group pulls out all stops for this year’s parade of gardens

By all reports, the Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools’ annual Seeding Our Future Garden Tour and Art Show were a resounding success this year.

The art show ran June 25 and 26, while the garden tour was June 26.

Eight families living within the Tigard-Tualatin School District opened their gardens to the public, with each one unique and stellar in its own way. They ranged from grand and spacious to intimate and unique to shady or sunny, depending on the space, topography and the homeowners’ interests.

“We were quite happy,” said Lisa Albert, who co-chaired the event. “Our goal each year is to sell all the garden tour tickets, and we did. And every year we also make new connections in the community.

“We did have two objectives – to raise funds and make the presence of the foundation in the community better known. The foundation has always had a connection with the parents in the school district, but we wanted to reach out to other people who don’t have kids in school.”

The foundation invests in students by funding programs that advance student achievement and success.

For example, in 2007-2008 the foundation funded 100 programs at 15 schools with $116,652 in grants and awards benefiting more than 12,585 students.

It funds three grant programs: Foundation Educator, Innovative Teaching and Foundation Arts.
