FRESNO, Calif. — Marra Erwin and Ashley Kerekanich, both 2006 Sherwood High School graduates, are two of five former Bowmen swimmers that will soon be beginning their college athletic careers.
But first, Erwin and Kerekanich had a chance to represent Oregon at the 2006 Western Zone Swimming Championships, held Aug. 8-12 in Fresno, Calif.
Erwin and Kerekanich helped the Oregon team finish in third place in the team standings with 774½ points.
The two former Lady Bowmen, who helped the Sherwood girls team win four straight Class 3A/2A/1A state championships, played key roles for the Oregon team at the Western Zone meet.
Erwin and Kerekanich teamed with Denise Green and Heidi Tilicki to finish in second place in the girls ages 17-18 200-meter freestyle relay in a time of 1 minute, 55.04 seconds.
In the 400-meter freestyle relay, Kerekanich teamed with Jessica Walker, Tilicki and Green to place fourth in at 4:15.06. Kerekanich found more relay success in the 200 medley relay, where she, Green, Rachel Lee and Natascha Mangan finished second with a mark of 2:09.87.
In the same race, Erwin, Cat Menkel, Walker and Tilicki were 11th with a time of 2:16.06.
In the 400 medley relay, the team of Kerekanich, Green, Lee and Mangan was second with a time of 4:39.44. Erwin, Menkel, Walker and Tilicki were 11th in that event.
