Sherwood picks up first win with 55-0 rout

DALLAS – After suffering a hard-fought loss to defending state champion West Albany to start the season, the Sherwood High School football team was determined to bounce back.

And, wow, the Bowmen bounced back in a big, impressive way.

The fired-up Sherwood squad picked up its first win of the season, rolling to a 55-0 victory over Dallas in a non-league game played Friday at Dallas High School.

“For sure, we were fired up for this one,” said Sherwood senior fullback Kevin Hausner, who scored a pair of touchdowns while rushing for 131 yards on eight carries, all coming in the first half. “Last week was upsetting, but we learned from our mistakes. It was such a big relief to get this first win. It’s going to start us off on a roll.”

Dallas dropped to 0-2 on the season with the setback while the Bowmen evened their record at 1-1.

“This was very important to us,” said Sherwood senior quarterback Brayde Gough, who completed five of nine first-half pass attempts for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns. “It shows that we’re a team to be reckoned with.”

Sherwood likely made believers out of the Dragons.

The Bowmen set the tone for the game early. In their first possession of the game, they quickly moved 57 yards in four plays, getting a 32-yard touchdown run by Hausner to take a 7-0 lead just 1 minute and 25 seconds into the contest.

That would be just the start of things.

Later in the first quarter, Hausner easily scored on a run from 25 yards out, sprinting through a huge hole opened up by senior center Sam Crabtree and junior left guard Tanner Steffens.
