MOUNT HOOD — The Tigard High School boys ski team got its 2010 Metro League season off to a flying start.
The Tigers skied to second place in the team standings at the first league meet of the season, a slalom event held Saturday at Timberline.
Tigard’s two-run team time of 5 minutes, 22.89 seconds put it just over two seconds behind race winner Jesuit, which had a team time of 5:20.78. Oregon Episcopal School was third at 5:38.96.
Corey Myers led the way for Tigard at the slalom race. He finished second in the individual standings with a two-run time of 1:39.04.
Also for the Tigard boys, John Sarvay was ninth at 1:52.34, Dan Millar was 10th at 1:52.09, Jeremy Sarvay was 11th at 1:56.94, Sam Fusick was 12th at 1:58.12 and Taylor Gentry was 15th at 2:05.71.
Steven Lentz of Southridge was the individual winner of the event with a time of 1:38.88.
On the girls side, Tigard finished seventh in the team standings with a time of 8:56.17.
Tigard senior Andrea Fisher finished in 23rd place, individually, with a time of 2:51.15. Teammate Aran Lenart was right behind in 24th place with a mark of 2:52.26.
Also for the Tigard girls, Cicely Barkhuff was 32nd at 3:10.96, Katherine Gentry was 34th at 3:24.87, Shannon Malamphy was 38th at 3:47.64 and Willa Ford was 39th at 4:10.84.
Alicia McCord of Oregon Episcopal School was the individual winner and Jesuit placed first in the girls team standings.
The next Metro League race will be a giant slalom event to be held Saturday at Willamette Pass.
