He sure seemed to earn his water on Friday as he scored three touchdowns in addition to helping the Tigers put points on the scoreboard in each of their first two possessions of the contest.

Senior Daniel Hunter booted a 33-yard field goal to end the Tigers’ initial possession of the game. Senior Ryan Gorton scored on a 4-yard run to cap off Tigard’s second possession, giving the Tigers a 10-0 lead with 10 minutes and 42 seconds to play in the second quarter.

Canby cut the lead to 10-7 when senior T.J. Gorman scored on a 6-yard run with 5:50 to play in the quarter.

But Tigard answered back as Grady reached the end zone on a 24-yard run around right end to up the margin to 17-7 with 1:11 remaining in the first half.

In their first possession of the third quarter, the Tigers moved 78 yards in 14 plays, ending the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run by Grady, pushing the score to 24-7.

The Cougars got a 5-yard touchdown run by Gorman to trim the margin to 24-14 with 8:57 to play, but they couldn’t get any closer.

After Tigard senior Axel Cederberg recovered the ensuing onside kick, the Tigers quickly moved down the field, getting a 9-yard scoring run by Grady to wrap up their 31-14 victory.

“This is a huge win,” said Tigard senior defensive back Isaiah Ferrer, who had a big game on defense, getting his first quarterback sack. “Last year, they just dominated us. Tonight, we just did our jobs. Scott had a big game running, the offensive line did great and everyone on defense had a great game.”

In addition to Grady’s 216 rushing yards, Gorton ran for 64 yards on 11 carries.

For Canby, Gorman rushed for 67 yards on 12 carries.

Both teams will be back in action on Thursday. Tigard will play at Forest Grove while Canby will host Newberg in 7 p.m. contests.
